What comes to mind when you think of the names Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Micheal Jordan, and Tom Brady? If you’re like the J-Squad you think of the term ‘GOAT,’ or (Greatest of All-Time). Of course when it comes to teachers here at U-Nation the term GOAT is synonymous with names such as Renfro, Fehringer, Wojcik, and Sturges. Sadly, however, none of them have reached GOAT status yet. But there is one who has… You guessed it… Bradley LEE Vogt…. Or as we like to call him here at J-Squad: Mr. Goat Vogt. J-Squad ‘heard tell’ that people even call him ‘Butter’ because he’s like a smooth criminal undercover! We hear he dresses like a dandy, has a killer mid-range jumper, and that he’s fond of whistling sad ballads. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s rewind to where the Legend began - ‘The Fast Times at Pender High.’ While playing for the Pendragons, Vogt-Goat participated in football, basketball, track, and baseball (1984-1988). Note: A gallon of gas in 1988 was 90 cents, a loaf of bread was .50 cents, and a gallon of milk was $1.65. Vogt still recalls the time that Peck took him deep over the right field porch at Heyne field. Sadly, the ball was never found and returned to Peck. From Pender the Goat-man took his talents to south Fremont where he attended Midland College. While at Midland, the Vogt-Goat participated in baseball and basketball. Little Known Fact: Vogt was the winning pitcher in Midland’s first ever baseball victory. But then his arm turned to jelly so he became a shortstop. During his time at Midland the Goat decided to become a teacher because he wanted to coach and he enjoys working with kids. He started teaching Phys Ed here at U-Nation in August of 1994. Vogt says he tries to keep students focused on passing classes while helping them as much as he can. When asked, “What is the greatest challenge facing teachers today?” The great one responded, “There are different challenges for all teachers so I'll just leave it at that.” (Deep thoughts right there Brad!) So how DOES Vogt get to work on time every day? It’s because of his ride: a 1991 Buick (AKA the Rez Rocket) with an 8.4-Liter V10 under the hood.
Note: No J-Squad members were even alive when this car was made! Picture Caption: What dat in the windshield? 🤔On occasion, with a good tailwind, Vogt can get the Rez Rocket up to 61 mph. This is when he drops a window and pumps up the jam with Country and 80’s Rock. It has been rumored that his favorite song is 'The Safety Dance' by Men Without Hats.Safety Dance Video - During his years at U-Nation Vogt has coached football, boys and girls basketball, cross country and track. The Goat Vogt took our boys basketball teams to state in 2001, 2004, and 2009. During that stretch he coached Chief greats such as Creighton Saunsoci and Tyler Miller. Vogt also coached the legendary Shailece Porter. She is the only female at U-Nation to be selected to the All-State team (#SHAI-TOWN). Vogt’s coaching record here at UN is 307-116 (74-22 with the girls while the rest was with the boys) Fehringer can help with the math. “When you get that Dub,” said Vogt, “Your chest puffs out and you feel like a man.” At least that’s how he felt when his team won that Junior High VB tourney in Bancroft last year.
Above the Legend goes over the game plan with his team. We have to mention that Vogt will be making a coaching comeback this year. Hence the title tag, ‘Return of the King.’ The Legend will be assisting with girl’s highschool basketball. With the powers of Hudnall and Vogt combined the victories should be plentiful. When not teaching or coaching, Vogt enjoys spending time with his lovely wife. She’s not a “Karen” of course but her name is Karin. These two have been sweet on one another since high school. They have been married for 45 years give or take. We couldn’t pin him down on a number. The Vogt man has 3 bambinos - two daughters and one beau. (Katie, Allie, and Lucas). He also has one dog that doesn’t like Peck at all. And yes, we can call him Grandpa Vogt because he has one granddaughter (Noah). “The best thing about grandchildren,” said Grandpa Goat Vogt, “Is that you can send them home after a couple of hours.” When Vogt isn’t spending time with the fam, he enjoys watching ‘Friends,’ He admits that he cried on the last episode. “Dat’s Facts!” says honorary J-Squad member Herm Dat Man Parker. G-Vogt also enjoys watching all five Rambo films. Hence his motto: "To survive a war, you gotta become war." Vogt’s hobbies include but are not limited to: golf, hunting, billiards, watching Husker sports, and watching the Steelers. When he isn’t participating in one of the aforementioned activities, Vogt Goat can be found curled up in a bean bag with his favorite book: Tom Osbourne’s, ‘More Than Winning’.Finally, we asked Mr. Goat-Vogt the timeless question: "What's the color of money?" - His response? “A 1980’s movie with Tom Cruise.” That’s rich! Oh, and we almost forgot. Brad’s favorite color is Mountbatten Pink. And there you have it, J-Squad readers. The Legendary Brad Goat Vogt.
