-Have fun and grow together-
It’s never too early to talk hoops… specifically Lady Chiefs’ hoops, and maybe some Duke Blue Devils. The Lady Chiefs were busy all summer attending camps and playing games. Coach Hudnall took the team to multiple sites including Hastings, York, Broken Bow, and even Spearfish, South Dakota. At each stop the ladies played games against teams from different towns, classes, and sometimes different states. Our girls even played one game against a team from Wyoming! One of the most exciting games was a six point loss to class A Kearney. In total, the girls traveled over 3,000 miles across Nebraska and South Dakota, playing 30 games in a one month span. But this wasn’t just a business trip. The girls were able to do some sightseeing as well; hiking Bear Butte, visiting Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore, driving through the Badlands, and even taking a helicopter tour (Rumor: Coach Huds was so frightened that his heart was going pitter patter and he was begging for his mamma). Senior Bianca Freemont stated that in each of those games the girls worked to build a strong relationship with one another because “team work makes the dream work!” Hudnall said, “In order to build a competitive program, you’ve got to be able to have fun and grow together as a team.” With basketball just around the corner, we will be seeing their hard work and dedication play out on the court. Trigger Warning! For all of you North Carolina fans out there, this seems like as good a time as any for a quick Duke update. The latest Blue Devil recruit is Jaden Schutt, a 6’5 guard from Yorkville Christian H.S. in Illinois. Apparently, this dude can shoot da lights out! This will also be legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final season. Krzyzewski owns a 1,097-302 mark in 41 seasons at Duke…. Including five national championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015). On the women’s side, Head Coach Kara Lawson returns to lead the Lady Blue Devils. Incidentally, Kara is one of Coach Hudnall’s coaching role models. Trust us, we got the info from the big man himself. A top recruit for the Lady Blue Devils is 5-6 point guard, Shayeann Day-Wilson from Canada. Day-Wilson will join a Duke roster that includes a total of nine newcomers for the 2021-22 season. But have any of these players ever hiked Bear Butte? Like the Lady Chiefs, the Duke men and women look forward to a great season! And for all of you Duke haters out there, go ahead and slam dat like button anyway!
